University description (as per official university website)
A warm welcome awaits
We currently welcome students from over 85 different countries and offer a wide range of support services for international students. Our International Office coordinates the Universityís international activities including marketing, recruitment and admissions, study programmes in other countries and collaboration with colleges and universities worldwide.
We know it can take time to settle down to life in a country where the culture, customs and laws may be very different from those in your own part of the world. We arrange Welcome Programmes to help you to settle in and feel at home. These include social and cultural events as well as practical sessions on issues such as opening a bank account, registering with the UK police, registration for library and computer services and passport and visa queries. The Welcome Programme gives international and EU students an opportunity to get to know each other, to meet members of staff and representatives from the Studentsí Union. It will also help you become familiar with the University and settle into your studies.
All tuition and assessment is conducted in English. For admission to postgraduate courses, the University normally requires a score of 6.0 under the International Language Testing Service administered by the British Council, or an equivalent qualification.
International student activities
As well as a number of cultural and religious societies organised through the Studentsí Union there is a thriving International Friendship Society which organises many social and cultural events.
