Lamar University was established on September 17, 1923, as South Park Junior College. The name was changed to Lamar College in 1932 and Lamar State College of Technology on June 14, 1949. The college received university status in 1971 and settled on its current name. The university is located in Beaumont, Texas. Lamar University is part of the Texas State University System and has enrolled more than 13,000 students as of Fall 2008. The university is organized into the following academic units:

* College of Arts & Sciences
* College of Business
* College of Education & Human Development
* College of Engineering
* College of Fine Arts & Communication

Lamar University has officially recognized several Greek letter organizations which are governed by the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inter-Fraternity Council, and Panhellenic Council. In addition, the university includes Multicultural Greek Chapters. Some of these fraternities and sororities are the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Alpha Order, and Mu Sigma Upsilon.


Applicants for admission to Lamar University are required to meet specific academic requirements. Lamar University, the College of Graduate Studies and the Lamar Institute of Technology each publish their own catalogs and require special application forms. The Office of Admission Services is located in the Wimberly Student Services Building and provides complete admissions counseling for entering students. The Admissions staff is professionally trained to assist prospective students with the assembly of admission credentials and can help with a smooth transition into the college environment.

Before registering, you must first apply and be accepted for admission. Returning students, after an absence of one calendar year, must submit an application for readmission.
