The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston was established in 1972. It was founded by the UT System Board of Regents and supported by the Texas Legislature in the world renowned Texas Medical Center. The campus consists of more than 40 academic buildings. The university offers a wide variety of degrees and programs in diverse areas of study. It is organized into the following academic divisions:
* Dental Branch
* Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
* Medical School
* School of Health Information Sciences
* School of Nursing
* School of Public Health
The student enrollment at UTHSC Houston was 3,774 in 2007 (3,089 full-time equivalent).
Undergrads are 12% of enrolled students, graduate students are 60%, and those seeking first-professional graduate degrees represent 28%.
