Le Tourneau University
Bedford, Dallas, Houston, Longview, Tyler, United States - Texas

University description (as per official university website)

History

HistoryLeTourneau University is named for its founder, R.G. LeTourneau, one of the worldís greatest inventors of earthmoving equipment. A businessman and devout Christian, LeTourneau toured Longview, Texas, with his wife, Evelyn in 1946 to consider a manufacturing site for his next earthmoving equipment factory. While flying over a sprawling complex of a vacated Army hospital consisting of over 200 frame buildings, Mrs. LeTourneau inquired about the facility. When told it was no longer in use, she suggested establishing a school to educate returning World War II veterans.

The site became LeTourneau Technical Institute, founded in 1946 with only male students. In 1961 the school became LeTourneau College, a co-educational four-year school. In 1989 LeTourneau College became LeTourneau University, a SACS and ABET accredited, nondenominational Christian university, offering four-year and two-year degree programs in engineering, technology, the liberal arts, business, aeronautical science, education, and the sciences, plus master's degree programs in business and education.

Mission

LeTourneau University is a co-educational,
interdenominational Christian university built upon a foundation of biblical authority, which seeks to glorify God by integrating faith, learning and living. Recognizing that all knowledge comes from the Creator, the university helps students develop a maturing relationship with God, encouraging them to know Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. LeTourneau is a comprehensive academic institution, offering undergraduate, graduate and continuing education, and setting standards of excellence in engineering, technology, the liberal arts, business, aeronautical science, education and the sciences. These programs are distinguished by an approach that provides students with the pure intellectual excitement of learning, coupled with real life problem-solving opportunities. At the core of all programs is an emphasis on developing communication and critical thinking skills.

Student Life

The university is national with students from all 50 states, over 20 countries, and over 45 different denominational groups. The school features over 40 student clubs and organizations. A large number of campus events and student activities are run throughout the academic year.

Graduates are provided with career placement services. The online students are offered a variety of learning and support tools. In addition, the online students have the opportunity to help each other.

Financial aid

Being accepted to college is exciting! Figuring out how to pay for it is not. Thatís why our Financial Aid staff is dedicated to helping you afford a LeTourneau University education. More than 95% of our students receive some form of financial aid, and we try to provide financial assistance to students who otherwise would be unable to attend.

Forms of financial aid range from gift aid (scholarship and grants that donít have to be repaid), student loans and work study programs, to a combination of these. Donít let the price tag keep you from a LeTourneau education ó the only way to find out if you qualify for student aid is to apply. For more information, look around our Web site through the links on the left.

Donít forget to check out scholarship programs available through community organizations, corporations, and your church and school. You can check on the availability of such aid through your guidance counselor, church and parentsí employers.
