University description (as per official university website)
Founded in 1781 and located about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Washington & Jefferson College is one of the nation's oldest and most distinguished co-ed, four-year liberal arts colleges for undergraduate students. The College's mission is to graduate men and women of uncommon integrity, competence, and maturity who are effective lifelong learners and responsible citizens, and who are prepared to contribute substantially to the world in which they live. To this end, Washington & Jefferson College promotes the development of the skills, knowledge, personal qualities, and worldview that characterize a well-educated person. All classes are taught by master teachers who are caring mentors and advisors, and opportunities abound for internships, study-abroad programs, student activities, athletics, and volunteer service.
W&J’s pre-law and pre-health programs are internationally known. More than 90 percent of W&J students who apply to law or health-related schools are accepted. More than 85 percent of W&J’s seniors seeking employment find work in their fields or attend graduate school upon graduation.
Academics:
Washington & Jefferson College offers rigorous study in the liberal arts, guided by a committed faculty who simultaneously mentor and challenge W&J students. You are supported whether you explore cell biology, medieval literature, or global finance.
Through the design of the curriculum, W&J students gain mastery of a field of study while also pursuing study across a broad range of disciplines. When you complete your bachelor of arts degree, you are prepared to contribute substantially to the communities you choose to join, both as a working member of that society and as a global citizen.
