Scholarships or student grants program description

Objectives The objective of the Southeast Chapter is to reward and encourage an AIST Southeast Chapter high school senior or college undergraduate student, preparing for a career in Engineering or the sciences, by providing a grant of financial support during attendance full or part time at any accredited university or college.

Awards One scholarship, valued at US$3,000 will be available each year.

Eligibility The scholarship will be awarded to a Southeast Chapter student pursuing a career in engineering, the sciences or other majors relating to iron and steel production, principally on the basis of SAT or ACT scores. Non first year students will be awarded on the basis of GPA from an accredited college or institution. If there are no applicants in engineering or the sciences, other majors will be considered. Consideration will be given for extracurricular activities and the student's written essay. This scholarship fund is for members of the Material Advantage program, children, stepchildren, grandchildren or spouses of active (dues paid) Southeast Chapter members for two consecutive years. Students members of the Material Advantage program are also eligible. The student must be accepted in an eligible full or part time course of study at an accredited university or college. Applications must be received by July of the year prior to entrance into said college or university.

Selection Applications for the scholarship will be reviewed by the Executive board of the Southeast Chapter and an unbiased non-member of the AIST. This award will be made without regard to financial need. Students may reapply each year for the term of their college education.
