| Scholarships or student grants program description |
Only citizens of France may enter the competition for a Knox Studentship at Trinity College. A Studentship may be offered for one, two or three (maximum) years, depending on the course of study which the applicant wishes to pursue at Cambridge. The Knox Fund is normally sufficient to support two students (occasionally three) resident in Trinity College, and competitions are held in March of a year when it is known that a vacancy will occur the following October.
Knox Students are expected to undertake a regular course of study within the University of Cambridge, and the award of a Studentship may be conditional on the applicant being accepted by the Board of Graduate Studies of the University for a particular course. Possible options are as follows:
A. A student may undertake one of the taught graduate courses offered by the University, usually of one-year duration and leading to the MPhil degree, a Diploma or a Certificate.
B. A student may apply to undertake research in one of the Faculties of the University with a view to study for the PhD degree (three years), or MSc or MLitt degrees (two years) in Cambridge.
C. A Studentship may be awarded to a student who is undertaking research leading to a doctoral degree at a French University, but whose work would clearly benefit from access for a year to library or laboratory resources in Cambridge. Under these circumstances, the student would still be expected to have gained admission to a Faculty as a Graduate Student, but would not be registered for any qualification.
