Conference | Civil Unrest and Socio-Political Changes: Marginalisation, Disintegration, Exclusion
Tbilisi State University, Georgia

Scholarship / Financial aid: N/A

Date: 26-29 May 2015

Deadline: 15 February 2015

Open to: researchers, professors, lecturers, students, journalists and other professionals

Announcement follows

After the long and interesting 20th century the world is faced with paradoxical occurrences – the great fear of anti-globalists that there is only one, namely, the Western future, has sunken into oblivion after more and more people fight for their specific beliefs and ideas. There are many different ideologies fighting each other; some are struggling to save themselves from the tremendous force of liberal economy and representative democracy, others are doing their best to tailor themselves in accordance with so-called Western values. More and more peoples and nations all over the world are declaring independence, autonomy or sovereignty, and many of them get ready to take up arms and risk their lives and the lives of their compatriots to fight for the idea of the state, nation or country they believe in.

With the fall of the Berlin wall the 200-year era of revolutions (1789–1989) supposedly ended and the history with it. Nevertheless, the third millennium brought what it seems to be a start of the whole new era of civil unrests and social changes. Starting from the Georgian Rose revolution in 2003 and the Ukrainian Orange revolution in 2004 to the Arab spring, protests in Turkey, another Ukrainian revolution, unrests and protests in Greece, Spain and Venezuela, it seems that the 21st century might even be longer and more intense than the previous one.

There is no sign of the common culture, world ethos or any kind of cultural relativism on the horizon. Globalisation forces are making us – every individual and communities as a whole – very afraid for our own identity, which is the source of many unfortunate occasions, especially, the destructive prospects of marginalisation, disintegration and exclusion.

We invite scholars – researchers, professors, lecturers, students, journalists and other professionals – to take part in the international conference hosted by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Republic of Georgia) in cooperation with University of Ljubljana and A priori Academic Society from Slovenia, EU.

All papers should address some aspects of the conference topic, being from the historical, sociological or philosophical perspectives, through art, literature, politics or any other area of humanities and social sciences.
