2015 International Research Conference: Design for Business
Melbourne, Australia

Scholarship / Financial aid: N/A

Date: 12-13 May, 2015

Deadline: 5th November, 2014

Open to: experts from diverse fields such as design, business, management, marketing and entrepreneurship

Announcement follows

Call for Papers
We are pleased to invite proposals for research papers and presentations for the upcoming 2015 International Research Conference: Design for Business. This is a leading, double-blind peer reviewed conference that examines how design as a strategic resource adds value to business.

Please note that by ‘business’ we include commercial and not-for-profit enterprises. Many organizations, including governmental departments, cultural organisations, not-for-profit enterprises, and even cities, have adopted business-style management in order to improve their operations. Also, many increasingly use design thinking approaches in order to better understand their stakeholders, to improve their workplaces, to create new experiences for their clients, to minimize the impact that they have on the environment and increase sustainability, or to improve their services, their distribution, or their manufacturing processes. If you are working or doing research in any of these areas, then we would like to hear from you.

The 2015 program has been updated to include a Round Table Symposium, providing opportunities for completed work and the sharing of work in progress.

Abstracts submission
We invite you to submit an abstract of no more than 300 words that addresses the theme of the conference. Please do not use references in your abstracts. The abstracts should be stand-alone documents. If your abstract is accepted, we will invite you to submit a full paper for consideration.

Deadline for Abstracts: 5th November

About the Conference

Design for Business is a premier international research conference that runs annually in Melbourne, Australia. The event was developed by agIdeas in 2010 and it is presented as part of the Melbourne International Design Week.
The conference is managed by an Executive Group and led by an Advisory Board of esteemed professionals and academics. An international Review Panel of over 150 experts ensures the quality of the selected papers.

This conference brings together experts from diverse fields such as design, business, management, marketing and entrepreneurship to present, discuss and debate issues around the role of design in business. In previous years we have had delegates coming from leading schools, businesses, research centers, design organizations, and universities such as Stanford University, Copenhagen Business School, Aalto University School of Business, Politecnico di Milano, the Glasgow School of Art, Delft University of Technology, Icograda, ARUP, Ehrenberg-Bass, ThinkPlace, Smart Design, FutureBrand, Geyer, VSA Partners, Nike, and others.

This is a not-for-profit conference supported by the State Government of Victoria and leading universities. Our publishing partner is the international academic publishing house—Intellect Books & Journals, in association with the University of Chicago Press.

Note to the Contributors

This conference is a forum that covers a broad range of topics. However, please note that we do not solicit proposals that are focused only on design or only on business. We are interested in papers that are placed on the intersection of both. We are also interested in papers that study the broader social, cultural and environmental context in which design-driven businesses operate.
We are always interested in new and interesting topics that revolve around this concept, so if you would like to propose a subject that we have not explicitly mentioned, but you feel that it may fit within the theme of the conference, please feel free to contact us and discuss your idea.

New Opportunities

The 2015 program has been updated to include a Round Table Symposium, providing opportunities for completed work and the sharing of work
in progress.

Authors of accepted papers will be invited to present at the Design for Business: Research Conference. The presentations will be delivered over two days and across two different formats: Research Forum and a Round Table Symposium. Based on recommendations from the Review Panel, you will be invited to present in either the Research Forum as a speaker or in a panel session at the moderated Round Table Symposium.

Research Forum

Research Forum presentations will last up to 20 minutes and will be followed by up to 10 minutes of questions and/or discussion. All selected papers for the forum will be published by Intellect Books& Journals. The forum is open to the public and the audience is encouraged to engage with the presenters through moderated Q&A sessions.

Round Table Symposium

The Round Table Symposium will include brief presentations followed by sessions of moderated group discussions. All papers presented at the Symposium will be considered for publication by Intellect Books & Journals.

Executive Summaries

If you are selected for presentation and/or publication, we will also ask you to prepare a 700-900 word digest (summary) of your paper that could be presented to a non-academic community in an easily read format. This material will be published in our Executive Summary bulletin that will be distributed to the Top 500 Australian Businesses, Top New Zealand Businesses, and to over 25.000 small and medium businesses in Victoria, Australia, and will be made available to the global business community through our website.
