Announcement follows

The IHS PhD Scholarship awards $1,500 to entering and currently enrolled graduate students in doctoral programs. 50 graduate scholarships are available to applicants intending a career in academia and whose work advances the principles of individual liberty and economic freedom.

Examples of qualifying research for the IHS PhD Scholarship include:

§ Examining the cultural causes of the British Industrial Revolution in order to ascertain origins of modern, innovation-led economic growth.
§ Investigating the role that identification with social groups for members of the American public plays in the adoption of general postures regarding the proper role of government and specific political attitudes.
§ How moral authority can be had in conditions of diversity of beliefs and values, and how different moral communities can live and cooperate together.
§ Using Public Choice economics to discuss the policy implications for the use of military technology, particularly the use of "unmanned aerial vehicles" or "drones."

Eligibility for the IHS PhD Scholarship:

Note: Alumni of IHS funding and in-person educational programs should apply for the Humane Studies Fellowship

The IHS PhD Scholarship is open to full-time graduate students who will be enrolled in a PhD program in the 2015-2016 academic year. Preference is given to applicants doing work in the humanities and social sciences, particularly economics, history, philosophy and political science.

Applicants for the PhD Scholarship must demonstrate research interest in the area of individual and economic freedom and its impact on societies and culture as well as a strong overall academic record.
