Announcement follows

The Summer School on Security Policy is organised as a part of Security Research Forum ‘Belgrade-Prishtina-Tirana’

Time: 12-16 May 2014

Venue: Ulcinj, Montenegro

Deadline for applications: 22 April 2014

Young professionals, journalists, civil society activists and graduate students from Albania, Serbia and Kosovo are invited to apply for the Summer School in Security Policy, if you want to:

_Learn how civilians can analyse and research security policy
_Discuss about human, national and regional security issues in the Western Balkans
_Analyse linkages between security and democratisation issues in Albania, Serbia and Kosovo with your peers from these communities
_Think of proposals for overcoming challenges in mutual relations
_Apply this knowledge in your graduate studies or work.

The Summer School is a joint initiative of three independent think-tanks specialised in security research: Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP), Kosovar Centre for Security Studies (KCSS), and Institute for Mediation and Democracy (IDM). We share a concern for human security and democratization, and believe that competent involvement of civil society in security politics can make security governance more representative, transparent, democratic and effective. Prior to this initiative, we have been cooperating since 2009 on a regional research on progress of security sector reform (SSR) and a transformation of region from a conflict zone into a security community.

The main objectives of this summer school are:

_To establish links among future members of security policy communities from Albania, Serbia and Kosovo;
_To increase the civilian capacities for engagement with security policy;
_To engage in joint exploration of security gaps and democracy deficits maintained by frozen conflicts, as well as possible solutions to the continuous challenges of cooperation among Serbia, Kosovo and Albania.

The Summer School on Security Policy is a part of joint three-year long project Security Research Forum (SRF) Belgrade-Pristhina-Tirana funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With SRF, we want to enhance understanding of mutual security issues by establishing various links among security policy communities (Belgrade-Prishtina-Tirana) and increasing transparency in security governance. For more information about the regional project Security Research Forum: Belgrade-Prishtina-Tirana please link here .

_The summer school will last 5 business days from 12-16 May 2014 and participants are expected to commit to participation all five days.
